Virtual System’s Mike Inman Highlights Updates to Midnight

Recently, Virtual Systems’ President of Development, Mike Inman, took time to highlight many of the recent updates to Virtual Systems’ Midnight product.  There were a number of improvements, so he wanted to ensure everyone was aware of all of the changes made that will help the product not only work better for customers, but also for Virtual Systems.

Security Improvements

First discussed were the upgrades to the security of Midnight.  Here are a few of the improvements to the software:

  • Increased encryption from 128 bits to 256 bits.
  • Passwords can be set to expire after a certain period of time.
  • Settings can require passwords to be a certain number of letters long.

Contract Pricing

The new updates to Midnight also offer changes to contract pricing.   Originally, the software had no ability to introduce a minimum price for the service, but this upgrade adds this option to the program.

Standard Service Screen

The new version of Midnight features some changes to the standard service screen:

  • Some launches contain wizards, others just a price.
  • The calculator moves from left gutter to widescreen format, and launches each time customers select a service.

Finishing Services

As for the finishing services, the old Midnight saved all of the information including the estimates under the same tab and the software did not always save the data in the correct department.  This has changed with the most recent updates, as now, each finishing service ensures the data is filed in the appropriate place.  When customers print the work orders, now they will see each task that must be completed.

Exception Handling Tool

Finally, Virtual Systems incorporated major improvements into to the exception handling reporting tool built into the most recent update of Midnight so they could be informed when their customers were having system issues:

  • Virtual Systems installed “hooks” in estimating and ordering modules so that whenever a customer receives an error or exception in the application, the error is automatically logged so Virtual Systems is notified.
  • This allows Virtual Systems to reach out to client to see what the problem is.  The business can look for patterns to see if there is a particular place the issue originates.
  • Most importantly, this allows them to be proactive, get insight into errors they may not have been aware of before.
